A pivotal figure in the story told in The Contested Plains is Nelson A. Miles, a colonel during the Red River War and later general of the army. The “brave peacock,” as Teddy Roosevelt dubbed him, is brought to life on screen by actor and award-winning western performer, R. W. Hampton.
