Who?

In December, R.W. Hampton released his first new single, “Who?” in over a decade and along with it, his first official music video.  Written out of a frustration of seeing good ranches being sold off and the families working there having to move, the lyrics are personal to the Hampton family, so the video needed to be as well.

It was shot in the Texas Panhandle while gathering some heifers with his son Colter in November, which happened to be just prior to R.W. being cleared by his doctor to ride after his open heart surgery this summer. The video features three generations of Hamptons, telling the story of passing down the heritage as well as the land, not with actors, but with the people who live the life the song speaks to every day. From the working scenes to special family moments, it reflects a way of life built on continuity, commitment, and showing up for one another.

The music video was filmed and directed by Matthew Dylan, a fantastic young videographer whose cinematic eye and storytelling approach captured the mood and feel that R.W.’s wife, Lisa, who was the Executive Producer, was looking for.   That “feel” helped bring “Who?” to life on screen and that focus on authenticity allowed the land, the people, and the song to speak for themselves.

A special thank you goes to Tim Youngblood with Youngblood’s Café, whose hospitality and welcoming spirit helped make filming possible, as well as to the many friends and family members who stepped in to lend a hand, a location, or simply their time. This project was truly a community effort.

The still photography for the cover of the single, “Who?”, the video and the upcoming artwork for the album “My Country” was captured by Scott Slusher, a highly respected Western photographer known for his ability to document real ranch life with honesty and depth. Scott’s work has been featured across the Western industry, and his images are recognized for preserving the people and places that define the American West — not staged moments, but lived ones.
