Why I Talk Politics

October 5, 2012

Flags at Sunset

Folks, last night someone commented that they didn’t like politics coming from my Facebook “music page”. Obviously they don’t know me very well.

You won’t find me telling you how to vote, just telling you TO GO VOTE. I like to hear the facts (when I can find them) and I want people to be interested in what is going on in America.  I am proud to be an American & I am proud that my father, forefathers & my son have all stood up & swore to protect this great nation – and some of them have died doing it.

I won’t ask you to vote for my candidate, and I won’t tell you who I want to win; but I will tell you that you should be praying for our country and for all of the candidates that they will be leaders who are guided by values other than personal greed and self-empowering goals.

This country can not stand with the polarization that is happening among us – right or left we need to learn to look towards the middle in order to build our great nation’s strength back.  And we need leaders who will do the same.

It takes each of us learning the facts and educating ourselves, holding to our values and then working hard to reach a compromise with those who have different values and ideals to achieve a plan that works for those who are willing to work hard to make it work.  There is not a one of us who is not able to do something for the good of our country and our neighbors; no matter our financial well-being or our physical abilities.

America was built by hardworking people who all came here to follow a dream. They didn’t come here for a hand-out, just a hand-up.  These same people made it great for all of us who live here today.

Working together to put strong leaders in our government is important if we want America to get back on her feet.  We can no longer sit by and say that someone else will take care of it while more and more of America is bartered off to foreign countries when we have a wealth of human and natural resources right here.  You have heard me say it before, America is not for sale!

I want to hand my children and grand-children a great nation to grow up in but I know it will take an effort of hard work.  Telling others how to vote just won’t work. But helping to find and support leaders worthy of voting for on both a local and national level does help.  Making sure I’m as educated as possible before I vote and knowing what my own principles and values are, and praying for our leaders those are ways I can help.  And, if doing my part includes reminding people what values I think are important – through my music, my writing and this page…. then so be it.

God Bless America!

I’d love to hear from you.  How do you educate yourself about the candidates?  Do you vote along party lines? What issues are the most important to you?

May The spark you started ignite the people to act by voting. One voice, one people, one nation under God. Amen

    Hey R.W.
I vote Christian principles, or you could say…I vote the Bible. And when I only have two choices, as in our Presidential race, I vote for the most Godly (at least that I can discern anyway ) and the one who I think will have the best interest of our Nation in his heart. I won’t go into so much detail about the pro’s and con’s of certain candidates, but through MUCH praying I seek the Lord’s guidance in my decisions. But I will say this time, it’s a NO BRAINER who to vote for. And people should know and realize, if they do not vote, or vote for a candidate that has NO chance of becoming President, their vote will be the same as if they had voted for the evil that’s trying to take over our country. My Dad was a WWII veteran, a man of God, who loved his God, and country. If he was here today, He would be fit to be tied, to see all the junk that is going on in our government today ! Lord, please have mercy on us in the USA, that we turn our country back to the foundation it was built upon and return to serving you as our Leader. YES, I’m going to vote for the man who honors our Flag, our Service people, and believes in keeping “IN GOD WE TRUST” where it is supposed to be!

I stand with you on this 100%. I stand my ground and tell people and share the facts that I find. I also repost some things I find on my page, even if there is only some truth.
What I want to make people realize is that only the Politicians are the ones splitting this country. We as People need to stand together as ONE. The Politicians are the ones who vote on the Budgets and handle the National Debt. Not one of the Middle Class or any Voter as a matter of fact votes on these issues. We sent the Politicians to handle it because thats their job. However, they have failed miserably and are trying to make it seem like We the People did it. I have been a Republican my whole adult life, 35 years, and I never vote straight party line. I can tell you since the Republicans have decided to intrude in every aspect of peoples daily lives with their changing of laws reguarding Voter ID, Abortions, Contraception , Gay Rights , Fair Pay for Women. Just to name a few. They had the time to vote on all these issues, yet not one vote, a record number of Fillibusters on jobs acts. Now the Mantra of Destroying Medicare and Social Security they are done. I have not seen one Politician take a cut in pay, reduce their benefits or abolish that ridiculous Pension System they have. VOTE THEM OUT. Don’t tell me they want less Government in Peoples Lives.

  4. Mike Myers says:

    Very well said.
I call it “stewardship of our citizenship”. It is, as you so elegantly put it, up to each and every one of us to be informed, involved (if possible), and aware.
We will not all agree about everything all the time but we need to be civil in our arguments and disagree with respect.

  5. Ruzevaldo Lima says:

Normally, I stand with the ideas and capacity of man, instead of the Party! We have great Americans politicians, who belong to the Party of Democrats, Republicans and Independents, too!

  6. Jay & Glenda Stewart says:

“In God We Trust”. It still applies today like it did in the beginning. Regardless of what others might say this is a Christian nation built on Christian principles and values. Another thing that applies today like it did in the past is 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”. What America needs today…

  7. Rosanne says:

I agree with you, but it is so sad that now in the ages if tech, that more people do not realize the truth. We are in desperate needs of keeping our nation together. We can go two ways… a nanny nation or a nation where we welcome growth and individual freedom. I believe this election is very important.. getting through the spins and mis-truths are essential. It is so sad that the media can not or will not report the truth. In God We Trust.

  8. Jesus is very clear about how we will be judged as a nation. Individually, we all have to answer for ourselves, but as a nation, Jesus says this.
The Judgment of the Nations – Matthew 25:31-46
31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sing on the throne of his glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.
    34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.
37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing?
39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’
40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.
    41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘you that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’
45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’
46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

You bet government has a role and it isn’t, nor was it ever intended to be, to provide more comfort for the wealthy. Much as Republicons would like you to believe they are Christians, neither the Constitution nor the Bible support the GOP agenda.

  9. Sandra B says:

Do the Bible and the Constitution support the Democrat agenda?

  10. John Dickey says:

“It takes each of us learning the facts and educating ourselves, holding to our values and then working hard to reach a compromise with those who have different values and ideals to achieve a plan that works for those who are willing to work hard to make it work.”

Well said, and to that I would add that people need to quit reading “headlines” and dig out the facts.
Extremism – right or left, is not the answer; but rather they should take the time and effort to gather as much unbiased information as possible so that they are better able to understand why they are taking the position that they are taking! In plain terms – COMMON SENSE!

  11. We have more than two choices. We also have Gary Johnson, Libertarian, who wants our troops home, auditing the FED, no income tax, having 9/9/9 tax… Just informing bc dem/repubs have effectively shut other choices out and people don’t know, it seems. He’s on all 50 states ballots.

  12. Barry Brockett says:

Though I like the idea of auditing the FED, no income tax, and such, the critical question we must ask ourselves is:

Do we want our country to become energy independent, our schools superior at half the cost, our national defense so superior that no country, or even a group of countries would dare attack us. Do we want genuine freedom of speech and freedom of religion? Do we want to insure our 2nd amendment right to bear arms?

And do we want the government taking over health care, which would mean rationing, starting with those over sixty. It’s already started.

Should the present administration be reelected, the opposite would happen. This president has no interest in developing our own energy and has said as much when he vetoed the Keystone pipeline.

He has made it clear that the military and our nuclear arsenal would be cut back drastically, making us vulnerable to not just continuous terrorism, but to the rising super powers such as China.

You notice that most of what weu buy is made in China? The money that we spend on Chinese products goes to… building super aircraft carriers and more as they continue to build.

The schools would become worse; many high school grads (those who graduate) have limited reading abilities, and no critical thinking skills. The schools put so much garbage in the minds of our young people they haven’t the time to learn the three Rs, not to mention the genuine history of our country.

This administration has thrown Israel under the bus and has made radical forces in the Middle East very happy. The president has done virtually nothing about Iran’s nuclear development; they promise to blow our ally in the region, off the face of the may. In fact, on Middle Eastern maps, in many cases, Israel is not even on the map.

To spend our precious vote on a Libertarian, no matter how terrific he may be, is, in effect, a vote for this president.

Make a statement, lose a country.

In years past I have voted Libertarian, but there is too much at stake.

  13. Barry Brockett says:

    Amen…

  14. Paula Arriola says:

    RW,
I am a Christian first(LDS). Jesus is my Savior. A Regan Rublican second. I want a strong economy, STRONG defense, a President that respects the constitution and respects the flag. I am very worried about who will end up on the Supreme Court. I am very worried about my freedoms being taken away. I do research the candidates. I email them often. I will not vote for anyone who is not strong on gun rights. I have worked since I was 15. That is what I am about. I am devisdated about the election results.
